Sustainability
Plastic is omnipresent in our everyday life and it is hard to imagine life without it. But as practical as this artificial raw material made from crude oil may be, on closer inspection the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. Plastic waste often ends up in nature and gets into our food via the groundwater and thus also into our bodies. Even if plastic is disposed properly, environmentally harmful gases and particles get into the air where they harm the environment and our health. That is why plastic should be avoided wherever possible. This is exactly where Montanita comes in.
Our goal is to reduce plastic waste that is generated in connection with care products. What is liquid shampoo in plastic bottles for when there is a natural and environmentally friendly alternative? Solid soaps are the ecological alternative to liquid soaps from plastic bottles and help to reduce unnecessary plastic waste. You do not have to do without quality or high-quality ingredients such as argan oil. At Montanita, we rely exclusively on natural and sustainable ingredients.
We also focus on sustainability when shipping our products. We only use sustainable and recyclable materials for packaging our products. We also take care to reduce material consumption to a minimum. So that the soaps arrive at your home undamaged, we cannot do without packaging entirely.
Raw materials
All of our soaps are made from 100% natural and sustainable raw materials. We pay special attention to the quality and purity of our raw materials.
An important ingredient in our soaps is argan oil, which is ideal for body care. Its special properties make it one of the most precious and exclusive oils in the world. The oil is obtained from the seeds of the fruit of the argan tree. The argan tree thrives worldwide only in the southwestern part of Morocco and is an integral part of everyday Moroccan life. Argan oil offers many benefits in personal care. Its nourishing effect on hair and skin has been proven by numerous scientific studies. Argan oil can prevent dry and brittle hair and make it supple. Argan oil also moisturizes the skin and protects it from drying out. The high vitamin E content also serves as a natural sun protection factor. [1]
In the following video from BusinessInsider about argan oil, you will learn more about the extraction and benefits of this extraordinary oil.
The central component of every solid soap are animal or vegetable fats, such as lard, coconut oil, palm oil or olive oil, which are saponified. Since we produce vegan and environmentally friendly soaps, we consistently avoid animal fats and palm oil. We mainly use saponified olive oil (Sodium Olivate) for our soaps, which, like argan oil, is extracted and processed in Morocco. By the way, the red clay, which is responsible for the color of our shampoo block, also comes from Morocco.
Because most of the ingredients in our soaps come from Morocco, the soaps are also produced on site. You can find more information on this in the next section.
Manufacturing
The main ingredients of our soaps come from Morocco. For this reason, we have come to the conclusion that production should also take place on site. The aspect of social responsibility in particular drove us to this production location. Because the raw materials are not simply exported, but processed on site, the entire value chain remains in Morocco. The local population thus benefits not only from the extraction of raw materials, but also from processing. This creates jobs and generates income for countless families. In addition, soap production has a long tradition in Morocco. Soaps have been produced in Morocco for centuries, which means that the production is not only understood as a work, but rather as a traditional handicraft.
Our soaps are made by hand, which means that every single soap is unique. However, this also means that small deviations in size, weight, shape and color are possible. The highest production standards are used in the manufacturing process. Regular controls by independent organizations guarantee compliance with good manufacturing practice.

Foam:
So-called “surfactants” are responsible for the formation of foam. These surfactants can be made from different raw materials. Conventional shampoos often use classic surfactants such as sodium laureth sulfate or sodium lauryl sulfate, which are made from petroleum. Both of these agents are very aggressive and can cause irritation.
Natural surfactants like the ones we use in our soaps are gentler on skin and hair. As a rule, however, they foam less, but this does not affect the cleaning power of the soap. [2]
PH value:
The pH value indicates the level of acidity in a liquid. The pH scale goes from 0 to 14. Liquids with a pH of 7, such as clean water, are said to be neutral. Liquids with a value below 7 are called acids, and liquids with a pH value above 7 are called bases or alkalis.
Since the pH of human skin is 5.5, many people believe that high pH is harmful and dries out the skin. However, this is a mistake. Alkaline soap supports the skin in deacidification and renewal. In addition, a high pH value neutralizes itself very quickly when washing. [3]
